Its not iluminated but thats ok with me, its compact, light and the nice part is the P4 reticle, you can easily adjust your aim without touching the elev dial. I too have read lots of negative comments about NCStar, but the 2-6x32 I got from Opticsplanet has worked fine on my flat top AR. I would'nt hate revealing it if it works. Of course, I may have just gotten lucky, as i have read other posts for NcStar and they are not flattering at all. But this one has some features (variable, lit and 42mm view) that are cool for the price (109.00). Also, be prepared to tighten hard and locktite the quick release screw (use blue) to get a tight hold.Īre there better scopes? Yeah there are.

Couple things I *dont* like about it- The eye relief is a bit short (meaning my eye has to get somewhat close to the scope for a full view) and the reticle crosshairs are a little "thick", not much but a little. The glass is clear, the reticle is lit and it hold zero for me. I actually like it! I read about some of the bad press it gets, and I have experienced nothing bad at all. Okay, I hate to reveal this, but i have the NcStar 3-9x42 carry handle mount scope. I've been googling quite a bit, but maybe there are more issues I'm overlooking. You’re also looking at the original handguards and fixed carry handle with pre-A2 sights. You can find them, but they’re not as readily available as other twists. Seems like the lower end scopes are very hit or miss? I was hoping this would be like my cheap, but fantastic, spotting scope. Assuming you want the A1, you’re looking at a 1:12 twist barrel. I'm upselling myself here, and I'm not even going to shoot the thing. I have one on my retro AR and although it looks cool, it sits really loose in the carry handle and thus doesn't hold it's zero worth a darn! If you really want to scope out your A2, I'd go with your option 2, a carry handle mount w/ a regular rifle scope. Don't waste your time or money on that Barska 4X20 scope.
